Diurnal variation of rainfall activity
(local time with the maximum rainfall rate)

We could study the diurnal variation of rainfall activity by summing up the data of long term observation. As the results, it was made to be clear that it rains mainly during the afternoon over land, on the other hand, it rains mainly during the morning near the coast over ocean. The phenomena happen all over the world. Moreover, it is revealed that, over lakes in land, it rains mainly during the morning which it is the same characteristic as over the ocean.

These results was reported in a book "Rain as seen from Space ; 4-year Obervation from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Satellite" (First Edittion published on 31 March 2002. edited by ""Rain as Seen from Space"" Production Committee; published by Japan Advance Plan Co., Inc.).

This site is for studying diurnal cycle at our laboratory's seminar (produced by Hirose-kun in 2003).
