Characteristics of the precipitation over the island
(Precipitation mainly over the oceanic continent)

It is shown that rain is the strongest during the afternoon on the small island, during the evening in the large island, and from midnight to dawn near the coast. It turns out that the time with the maximu precipitation becomes gradually to be late as the size of an island becomes large. Furthermore it is revealed that the diurnal variation of a vertical distribution of precipitation shows that it rains strongly near the surface over a small island, although the strong rain advances upwards and the rain top height is high over a large island.

These results was reported in a book "Rain as seen from Space ; 4-year Obervation from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Satellite" (First Edittion published on 31 March 2002. edited by ""Rain as Seen from Space"" Production Committee; published by Japan Advance Plan Co., Inc.).
