Spatial and Seasonal Variation of Rain Profiles
(Results of Mr. Hirose)

It is important to understand three-dimentional structure of precipitation systems in order to improve retrievals of water/heat budget. The structure is often rendered by the horizontal/vertical scale or rainfall distribution at certain plane such as the surface. We focused on vertical gradient of rainfall rate at lower level to characterize the profile and the system. With the Index of Vertical Gradient (IVG), we tried to depict monsoonal rainfall over inland India and compared with other rainy regions such as Africa and Amazon River Basin.
